Hilley to Varsey Trek





         

The Hilley to Varsey is a short and easy long weekend trek through the Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary and is a part of the Hilley to Uttarey or Hilley to Sandakphu trek. Located in West Sikkim, the trail, noted for the different kinds of Rhododendrons, turn into a riot of colors during April and May when the flowers are in full bloom. The trail is also much liked by the bird watchers for the different species of birds available in this trail. Here is the brief itinerary :-

•  Day 1 - Pick up from NJP Railway Station/ Bagdogra Airport/ Tenzing Norgey Bus Stand. Breakfast enroute. Drive to Hilley. Overnight stay at Hilley

•  Day 2 - Start early in the morning after breakfast. Trek through the Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary. The trek is a simple trail through the forest covered with Magnolia, Rhododendrons and other trees. The Hilley to Varsey trail turns into a riot of colors during April and May when the rhododendrons of different colors are in full bloom. This is the reason, the Hilley to Varsey trek route is also known as the "Rhododendron Trail." Birders can get rewards if they keep their eyes open. Reach Varsey after an easy trek of 4 Kms that typically takes about 2 hours. Explore the surroundings. Campfire at Varsey.

•  Day 3 - Trek back to Hilley. Transfer to NJP Railway Station/ Bagdogra Airport/ Tenzing Norgey Bus Stand.
